The project involved replacing three aging coarse screens that protect the pumping station and form a critical part of the site’s flood mitigation strategy.
Three MULTIGUARD™ coarse screens were selected and engineered to fit within a channel measuring 2.7 metres wide, with an operating depth of 9.8 metres from floor level to invert. Each screen was designed to accommodate a flow rate of 4,661 L/s and was manufactured entirely from 316 stainless steel to ensure long-term durability and corrosion resistance in the coastal environment.
Screenings captured by the 15 mm bar-spaced screens are discharged into an existing SPIRAC shaftless spiral conveyor, which transfers the material to a SPIROWASH® screenings washing and dewatering unit for further processing.
